Never Use Duplicate Content to Build Traffic
Wouldn’t you get irritated if you saw pretty much the same information repeated all across your search results page? Of course you will, because you wouldn’t have a choice as to which site to click on for the desired information. Search engines are intelligent enough to understand this and have complicated algorithms to filter pages having same or similar content. Of course the search results display similar pages but they are widely different.
Google defines duplicate content as blocks of content from same or different sites that are either same or closely matching. This would include product descriptions repeated in different sections of the same or different sites, similar content on affiliate pages and simply scraped content from other sites. There are some exceptions however. Since search engines find sites through links, a proper link from an affiliate site would tell the engine that the affiliate couldn’t have had dissimilar content. But it’s always better to avoid duplication.
Not all duplicate content is scraped content and intentional. Make sure your SEO or content provider is not shady enough to rip content from other sites to manipulate search rankings. That simply wouldn’t help you. Translated pages and occasional content blocks like user agreement, shipping policies etc. are however exempted from the rule and you can have them repeated occasionally on your site.
Search engines do their best to sieve out pages having duplicate content, but an occasional duplicate page might get displayed in the search results sometimes. Don’t worry; it will eventually get removed from the listings as the engines realize the truth.
